The cast of Netflix’s Bridgerton Season 2 is all social media can talk about. In the buzz around Bridgerton is actor Golda Rosheuvel who plays the leader of the ton, Queen Charlotte. The popularity and mystery of her on-screen character had led Netflix and Shondaland to develop a prequel series. Queen Charlotte is a force to be reckoned with from her glamorous gowns, in-your-face wigs, and attitude. But fans of the series may not have realized Rosheuvel played a role in Dune.

Golda Rosheuvel was familiar with Shonda Rhimes before starring in ‘Bridgerton’

In an interview with The Washington Post, Rosheuvel explains she never seeks roles. Starring in Bridgerton and Bridgerton Season 2 has raised Rosheuvel’s image as an actor. Rosheuvel was already familiar with executive producer Shonda Rhimes before being cast in the series.

“Very. I watched Grey’s Anatomy when it first came out. How to Get Away with Murder. Scandal was something that helped me through another job,” explained Rosheuvel. The actor was better known for her on-stage roles before being cast in Bridgerton. She starred in Macbeth, The Winter’s Tale, Romeo and Juliet, and Angels in America. In 2018, she played a female version of Othello.

The actor played guest roles in British TV sitcoms when it came to on-screen credits. Rosheuvel appeared in Dead Boss and was a series regular in Coronation Street. She also played Agnes in the 2016 movie Lady Macbeth. The now globally recognized actor also happened to have a supporting role in 2021’s most coveted movie, Dune.

Golda Rosheuvel played the role of a house maid in ‘Dune’

In 2021, director Denis Villeneuve’s reboot movie Dune was the year’s highlight. Before its premiere, the movie was tagged as a “masterpiece” with a star-studded cast, visuals, and score by Hans Zimmer. Bridgerton fans may not have realized that after Rosheuvel starred as Queen Charlotte, she played the role of Shadout Mapes in Dune.

The character plays a key role in the original book series and 1984 movie. In Dune, Rosheuvel’s character is introduced as a candidate to become a housemaid for the new house of Atreides when they move to Arrakis. Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) automatically recognizes her as Fremen and chooses her.

Mapes bestows upon her a crysknife, believing she and her son are the figures from the prophecy. The character reappears when Paul (Timothée Chalamet) saves her from a hunter-seeker.

Sadly, Rosheuvel’s character is killed before the Harkonnen invade Arrakis to wipe out the House of Atreides. Compared to the original books and movie, Mapes’s story in Dune is cut short and has less impact.

The ‘Bridgerton’ and ‘Dune’ actor will get her own prequel series

The bigger emphasis on Queen Charlotte in Bridgerton Season 2 was for a reason. The character became a fan favorite, but fans were curious about her backstory. Chris Van Dusen created the character using often debated historical facts of the real Queen Charlotte having an African American lineage.

The Bridgerton prequel series will chronicle a young version of the queen and her arrival in London. Her arrival and marriage to the king caused a shift in the ton and higher class. It is safe to say both seasons of Bridgerton set the stage for Rosheuvel’s character.
